The Penrose Park Velodrome is located in the City of St. Louis, Missouri in the Penrose Neighborhood. First of all, what is a "velodrome?" A Velodrome is a track that is banked for bicycle riding and races and can be indoors or outdoors. The Penrose Velodrome, constructed in 1962, is the only one found at any of the City parks. In fact, the Penrose Velodrome is the only one in Missouri and one of only 27 that are found in the nation!
The specifics of the Penrose Velodrome are that it is located outdoors. One lap is equal to 1/5th of a mile. The track is banked at 28 degrees. The asphalt surface was replaced in 2019 with concrete. It is open to the public for biking, walking and more, and is used for practice and training, as well as hosting racing events.
Like most of the St. Louis City parks, the Velodrome is open from dawn to dusk, seven days a week, 365 days a year (weather permitting).
